KITNET

Kitnet is a short comic about paranoia and isolation. Done in 2020 and published by the former Sapata Press and subsequently self-published and distributed by yours truly.

“Painting, photography, animation… It’s hard to find an artistic field in which Puiupo doesn’t work, but it’s undeniable that comics are where he shines the most. His work tends toward graphic experimentalism, interested in disconcerting the reader through the contrast between text and image – just remember the excellent Gume, one of the best releases at FIQ 2018, and Óbice, a collection of short poetic chronicles about everyday life. Last year, through the Sapata Press label, he released Kitnet, a work that reflects, in the heat of the moment, on the paranoia generated by the pandemic. The urgency of the subject combined with the author’s traditional narrative decompression, bringing out a recurring theme in his works: the battle between reality and the unconscious. All the monotony of the protagonist – the artist himself living isolated in his apartment – is only broken by the sound of the doorbell, rung several times a day by someone who is never found. Fear of the unknown, loneliness, the palpable threat of Covid-19: these are several issues that pile up in a situation that may or may not be happening. Puiupo has the ability to create works with hidden subtexts, to be discovered over the course of several readings. Kitnet is another example of this.”
